Michelle van Vliet wins Young Delta Scientist Award
The Best Young Scientist Award was granted to Michelle van Vliet, PhD student at Earth System Science and Climate Change at Wageningen UR. She received the award for her poster on the risks of high river temperatures for energy during the closing plenary session of the first international delta conference Deltas in Times of Climate Change in Rotterdam on 1 October 2010.
The conference attracted over 1.200 participants from science, policy and practical field. The participants could choose from 72 parallel sessions on delta related topics such as governance of climate change, local adaptation measures, climate proofing urban areas and flood risk management. The young scientists that presented their research were carefully screened for scientific relevance, practical applicability and presentation skills.
Professor Carlos Nobre from Brasil awarded Stephanie Janssen (Deltares) with the Best Young Scientist Award for the best paper and oral presentation and Michelle van Vliet (WUR) with the Best Young Scientist Award for the best poster.
